I started drumming up amazing images in my head that I would like to capture. Browsing through hundreds of vivid images on the web I was pumped to get down to Circular Quay and photograph the festival.
I put TOO much pressure on myself in photographing this festival. I wanted to go everywhere and photograph everything! I quickly realised that this was not going to be possible and this stressed me out. I felt disappointed with my shots and I was quick to blame the large friday night crowds.
I decided to go back a second time on a quiet Wednesday night. I was much more relaxed this time and had more fun with my photography and this shows in the images.
It is so easy to be drawn into the beauty of the Opera House. This years projections were fantastic and I fell in love with the animal print theme and the Chameleon that made an appearance on the sails. I did spend too much time trying to capture the projections rather then going for original and unique shots.
A friend of mine recently told me that he gave up on photographing the lights and focused on the people. This is great advice and I will remember this for next year.
